McNab, Andy

(1960– )

Andy McNab was an SAS commander during the Gulf War, and his first book, Bravo Two Zero (1994), was a detailed autobiographical account of a risky top-secret mission to penetrate Iraqi defences, during which he was caught and tortured. Following the book's outstanding success, McNab went on to write Immediate Action (1996), the story of his difficult childhood and early days in the Army, and of his subsequent entry into the Special Forces. McNab has also written two best-selling thrillers, both of which centre on Nick Stone, a fictional ex-soldier who served in the SAS and is now a special agent. Begin with Remote Control (1997), as Stone is forced to go underground following the murder of a close friend. Move on to Crisis Four, the fast-moving story of Stone's entanglement with Sarah, an enigmatic colleague with a dangerous secret past.
