Crete



Crete, mountainous island in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, about 3,235 sq mi (8,380 sq km). Part of Greece, Crete relies on agriculture and tourism. The island was the home of the ancient Minoan civilization (c.1600 B.C.), with its capital of Cnossus.
