Cresol



Cresol, or hydroxytoluene, group of organic chemical compounds. Cresols are a major component of creosote oil, which is applied as a preservative to railroad ties, fence posts, and other wooden outdoor structures. Obtained from coal tar or a petroleum base, cresols are also used in antiseptic soaps and disinfectants.
