Battle of Crécy



Crécy, Battle of, key battle in the Hundred Years War between England and France, fought in 1346. The English army under King Edward III was heavily outnumbered by a French force under King Philip VI at the village of Crécy in Normandy. After suffering serious losses from English archery attacks, the French retreated. The battle made an English national hero of the king's son, Edward, the “Black Prince.”
