Cornet

Cornet, trumpetlike valved brass wind instrument. It has a mellow tone controlled by lip vibration at the cupped mouthpiece and a two-and-a-half octave range. It is usually tuned to B flat. Cornets have traditionally been used in brass bands but rarely in symphony orchestras. They have, however, found an important place in jazz.
