Confirmation



Confirmation, rite of certain Christian churches, usually administered in adolescence. The candidates confirm the promises made at their baptism, and the bishop lays his hands on them, invoking the Holy Spirit upon them. In the Roman Catholic and Eastern churches confirmation is a sacrament.
