James Bryant Conant



Conant, James Bryant (1893–1978), U.S. educator. As president of Harvard University (1933–53), he introduced national scholarships to attract students from all over the United States. Conant was chairman of the National Defense Research Committee (1941–46), American high commissioner for Germany (1953), and ambassador to West Germany (1955–57).
