Henry Steele Commager



Commager, Henry Steele (1902– ), U.S. historianand educator, who taught American history at New York University, Columbia University, and Amherst College. His works include Majority Rule and Minority Rights (1943), The American Mind (1950), and Freedom, Loyalty, Dissent (1954). He was a major interpreter of U.S. history and an exponent of liberal democracy.
