Columbia University

Columbia University, one of the major private U.S. universities. Founded as King's College in 1754, it was renamed Columbia College in 1784 and became a university in 1896. Its schools and facilities, mostly in New York City, include important research institutes for international relations and schools of journalism, business, medicine, law, and social work.
