Cologne



Cologne (pop. 916,200), river port and industrial city in western Germany, on the Rhine River. Its products range from heavy machinery to toilet water (eau de cologne). The prosperity of Cologne (Köln in German) dates from its membership in the Hanseatic League in the 15th century.
