(Charles) Joseph Clark



Clark, (Charles) Joseph (1939– ), Canadian prime minister (1979–80). After election to the House of Commons in 1972, he was elected leader of the Progressive Conservative party in 1976, and prime minister in 1979, replacing Pierre Trudeau and marking the beginning of western Canada's political importance.
