Giovanni Cimabue



Cimabue, Giovanni (Cenni di Pepo or Peppi; c.1240-c.1302), Italian painter. His work shows the transition from the formal Byzantine style of painting to the more lyrical Florentine school of the 14th century. His best known work, Madonna and Child Enthroned with Angels and Prophets, is now at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy.
