Henri Christophe



Christophe, Henri (1767–1820), king of North Haiti. A freed black slave, he became president of Haiti in 1806, after plotting the assassination of Dessalines. After 1811 he ruled North Haiti, as King Henri I. Faced with a revolt, he shot himself.
