Chimera, in Greek mythology, fire-breathing female monster with a lion's head, goat's body, and serpent's tail. By extension, the word is applied to any imaginary being of incongruous parts, or to any unrealizable plan or scheme. In biology, the term is used for any individual or organ that is composed of tissue of varying genetic origin (e.g. from transplantation).
