Child labor



Child labor, employment of children in industrial or agricultural work, a practice common in the United States in the 19th century. The Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 forbade the employment of children under 16 in heavy industry, transport, or commerce, and under 18 in occupations detrimental to health.
