Chicano



Chicano, person of Mexican-American descent. Chicanos first came to the United States as seasonal field workers. Over 8 million Chicanos now live in mainly southern U.S. cities. A Chicano labor leader, Cesar Chavez, organized the United Farm Workers (1962) and achieved bargaining power for Chicano field workers after years of bitter struggle.
