Cheyenne

Cheyenne, North American tribe speaking an Algonquian language. By the mid 19th century the Cheyenne had become nomadic hunters on the Great Plains, and after 1860 their fierce battles against encroaching whites culminated in the defeat of General Custer in 1876 by an alliance of Sioux and northern Cheyenne forces. Eventually the Cheyenne were resettled in Oklahoma and Montana.
