Claire Lee Chennault



Chennault, Claire Lee (1890–1958), U.S. pilot. In 1937 he went to China to organize Chiang Kai-shek's air force in the war against Japan. In 1941 he organized in China the American Volunteer Group, the Flying Tigers. From 1942 to 1945 he served as commander of the U.S. air forces in China.
