Chameleon



Chameleon, lizard of the family Chamaeleonidae, found in Africa and Madagascar, that is well adapted to living in trees. Its tail is prehensile, and its eyes can turn independently in all directions. It feeds on insects that it catches with its long, sticky tongue, and the color of its skin alters swiftly in response to changes of emotion or temperature. There are over 80 species, ranging in length from 2 in to 2 ft (5 cm to 0.6 m).
