Cerebrospinal fluid



Cerebrospinal fluid, serum-like fluid produced in the lateral ventricles of the brain; it bathes the brain and spinal cord.

Lumbar puncture (spinal tap) between the third and fourth lumbar vertebrae is performed to obtain a specimen of cerebrospinal fluid for diagnostic study of brain and spinal cord disease.
