Century plant

Century plant, any of several desert plants (genus Agave) native to warm climates in the Americas. The name arose from the misconception that the plant bloomed only once every 100 years. The century plant, also known as the American aloe, has thick fleshy leaves and produces a yellow flower spike. In Mexico, the sap of some agaves is used to make beverages, and the long tough fiber is formed into cord and rope.
