Celsius scale



Celsius scale, system for measuring temperature in which the interval between the freezing point and boiling point of water is divided into 100 equal degrees. In the Celsius scale, also called the centigrade scale, water freezes at 0 degrees and boils at 100 degrees. Invented by the Swedish astronomer Anders Celsius in 1742, the Celsius scale is widely used in scientific work and is the common system of measuring temperature in most of the world.
