Castanets

Castanets, small percussion instrument consisting of 2 shell-shaped halves, usually made of wood or ivory. They are held in the palm of the hand and tapped by the fingers to produce a clicking sound. Castanets have been used for hundreds of years in Spanish flamenco dancing. More recently some composers have included a part for castanets in their music, especially to suggest a Spanish flavor.
