Hoagy Carmichael



Carmichael, Hoagy (Hoagland Howard Carmichael; 1899–1981), U.S. songwriter. His 1929 ballad “Star Dust” became a popular classic. Other compositions include “Georgia on My Mind” (1930), “Lazybones” (1933), and “The Nearness of You” (1940). He appeared as a pianist in several films including To Have and Have Not (1944), and his song “In the Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening” won an Academy Award in 1951.
