Roy Campanella



Campanella, Roy (1921– ), one of the most popular and successful catchers in baseball history. He signed with the Negro leagues in 1936, joining the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1948. Campanella's 10-year major league career was cut short by an automobile accident in 1958 that left him paralyzed. He won the National League's Most Valuable Player award 3 times (1951, 1953, and 1955) playing for the Dodgers.
