Camorra

Camorra, Italian secret society started in the Kingdom of Naples (1830). Although it specialized in extortion, smuggling, robbery, and assassination, it was often used by the authorities, and it became very powerful. After Italian unification in 1861, attempts were made to suppress the society, but it survived until 1911.
