Calcium



Calcium, chemical element, symbol Ca; for physical constants see Periodic Table. It was first isolated in 1808 by Sir Humphry Davy. A member of the alkaline earth group, calcium is the fifth most abundant element in the earth's crust, occurring in numerous compounds. It is an essential constituent of plants and animals, neccessary for building bones and teeth.
