Fanny Burney



Burney, Fanny (Frances Burney; 1752–1840), English novelist and diarist. Her first novel, Evelina (1778), won her the respect of Samuel Johnson. She was a member of Queen Charlotte's household 1786–91. Her Early Diary: 1768–78 and Diary and Letters: 1778–1840 provide interesting background to the period.
