Bugle

Bugle, wind instrument of the brass family, made of either copper or brass, with a conical bore and a cupshaped mouthpiece. The sound it produces is clear and penetrating. The bugle can produce only 7–8 different pitches; only 5 are needed in the military calls for which it is used. An instrument of great antiquity, it is mentioned in the Old Testament description of the siege of Jericho.
