Dave Brubeck



Brubeck, Dave (1920– ), U.S. pianist and composer in the classical and jazz idioms. He studied composition with Darius Milhaud and Arnold Schoenberg. His jazz quartet, founded in 1951 and active through the 1960s, featured alto saxophonist Paul Desmond. During the 1970s and 1980s Brubeck often performed with his three sons. His compositions, known for complex cross-rhythms and baroque counterpoint, include “Blue Rondo a la Turk” and “Take Five.”
