Brown recluse



Brown recluse, poisonous spider (Loxosceles reclusa) of the southern United States, member of the family of brown spiders (Loxoscelidae). It is about 3/8 in (1 cm) long, with a dark violin-shaped patch on its back and 6 eyes in 2 rows. The spider's poisonous bite, used to paralyze insects it eats, leaves a deep and long-lasting sore in humans, and may produce severe reactions, even death.
