Brook Farm



Brook Farm (1841–47), Utopian community, founded at West Roxbury, Massachusetts, by Unitarian minister George Ripley. The aim was to create an egalitarian community of workers and thinkers; many leading intellectuals were attracted, including the author Nathaniel Hawthorne, who was a member, and Horace Greeley, Margaret Fuller, and Ralph Waldo Emerson, who visited.
