Children of the Brethren



Brethren, Children of the, Baptist sect organized in Germany in 1708. Following persecution, the church was reorganized in 1719 in Germantown, Pa., eventually spreading its doctrine of pacifism and simple living to the Pacific coast. Headquarters in Elgin, Ill., the church sponsors mission work around the world and operates six colleges and a seminary.
