Thomas Bradley



Bradley, Thomas (1917– ), U.S. public official, mayor of Los Angeles. A former college track star and Los Angeles policeman who was admitted to the bar in 1956, he was elected to the Los Angeles city council in 1963. In 1973 Bradley became the city's first black mayor. He was California's Democratic gubernatorial candidate in 1982 but lost in a close race; he continued as mayor.
