Edward Braddock



Braddock, Edward (1695–1755), commander-in-chief of British forces in North America, who was disastrously defeated in the French and Indian Wars. His 1755 expedition against Fort Duquesne (on the site of present-day Pittsburgh), ran into a French and Indian ambush. Braddock was fatally wounded and his men were routed. Among the survivors was a Virginian officer, George Washington.
