Samuel Bowles



Bowles, Samuel (1826–78), U.S. newspaper editor and political leader. Born in Springfield, Mass., Bowles inherited the Springfield Republican at age 25 and made it one of the most influential papers in the United States. He assisted the antislavery movement and helped found the Republican Party in New England.
