Bologna



Bologna (pop. 401,300), Italian city 51 mi (82 km) north of Florence at the foot of the Apennines. It is an ancient Etruscan and Roman city, with a university founded in 1088, many medieval buildings, and Renaissance paintings and sculptures. Capital of the Emilia Romagna region, it is an agricultural and industrial center.
