Saint Bernadette



Bernadette, Saint (Marie-Bernarde Soubirous; 1844–79), French peasant girl who claimed to have had 18 visions of the Virgin Mary in a Lourdes grotto in 1858. The grotto became a shrine, and she was beatified (1925) and canonized (1933). Her feast day is Feb. 18 in France, April 16 elsewhere.
