Milton Berle



Berle, Milton (Milton Berlinger; 1908– ), U.S. comedian. Nicknamed “Uncle Miltie” and “Mr. Television,” Berle had successful careers in vaudeville, motion pictures, stage musicals, and radio before becoming host of the “Texaco Star Theatre” on NBC (1948). For the next 6 years, his comedy show was the most frequently watched program on television and he is credited with popularizing the new medium.
