Georg von Bekesy



Bekesy, Georg von (1899–1972), Hungarian-born U.S. scientist who was awarded the 1961 Nobel Prize for medicine for research into the mechanism of the inner ear. A senior research fellow at Harvard University since 1947, he made discoveries about the physical mechanisms of hearing, particularly with respect to discrimination of pitch.
