Bear



Bear, large mammal (family Ursidae), usually omnivorous, characterized by heavy build, thick limbs, small tail, and small ears. All have coarse thick hair which is, with the exception of the polar bear, dark in color. Species include the brown bear, the North American black bear, the spectacled bear, the Asiatic black bear, the sun bear, and the sloth bear. The Kodiak, a brown bear, is the largest, up to 9 ft (2.7 m) tall and 1,600 lb (730 kg).
