Elgin Baylor



Baylor, Elgin (1934– ), U.S. basketball player and coach. Baylor, a 6 ft 5 in (196 cm) forward, played on the Los Angeles (formerly Minneapolis) Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1958 to 1971 and is considered one of the best all-around players in history. His achievements include being named NBA Rookie of the Year (1958–59), and scoring 71 points in a game (1960). Baylor was head coach for the New Orleans Jazz (1976–1979), and is director of basketball operations for the Los Angeles Clippers (1986– ).
