Bartram, 2 American naturalists, father and son. John Bartram (1699–1777) planted America's first botanical garden at Kingessing, Pa., in 1728. William Bartram (1739–1823), famous for his book Travels (1791), based on his trips with his father in the southeast United States, inspired Wordsworth and Coleridge.
