Barn owl

Barn owl, common white owl (Tyto alba) useful as a destroyer of rodents. It grows to a length of about 18 in (46 cm), with a white face and cinnamon-dappled white breast. It nests in cliffs, hollow trees, and buildings. Its piercing scream is probably responsible for many tales of “haunted houses.”
