Millipede

Millipede, segmented arthropod having two pairs of legs on each body segment (unlike centipedes, which have only one pair of legs per segment). Millipedes live in damp soil, rotting vegetation, or under stones. They eat mainly decaying vegetation. Some roll into a ball when molested, while others squirt a spray of poison that can burn the skin. Some tropical millipedes grow to several inches in length, and a few are brightly colored. One species, living among the sequoias of California, is luminous.
