Ludwig Mies van der Rohe



Mies van der Rohe, Ludwig (1886–1969), German-born U.S. architect, famous for functional but elegant buildings in the International Style, constructed of brick, steel, and glass. His work includes the Illinois Institute of Technology campus (1939) in Chicago, and the Seagram Building (1958, with Philip Johnson) in New York. Although he had no formal training, he was a director of the Bauhaus school and one of the leading architects.
