Menninger



Menninger, U.S. family of psychiatrists. Charles Frederick Menninger (1862–1955), along with his sons Karl Augustus (1893–1990) and William Claire (1899–1966) established the clinic (1920) and foundation (1941) that bears their name in Topeka, Kans. Karl and William served as officials for the Menninger Foundation which specializes in research, treatment of mentally ill patients, and the training of psychiatric professionals. Published works include Karl's The Human Mind (1930), Man Against Himself (1938), and The Crime of Punishment (1968) and Williams's Psychiatry in a Troubled World (1948).
