Mencius



Mencius (Mengke; 370–290 B.C.), Chinese philosopher. A follower of Confucius, he was influential in the development of Confucianism. He held that humanity is naturally good and that the principles of true moral conduct are inborn. He was a champion of the ordinary people and exhorted rulers to treat their subjects well.
