Saint Matthew

Matthew, Saint, one of the twelve apostles, traditionally the author of the first gospel. His gospel, the fullest of the 4 gospels, was probably written for Jewish Christians. By its many Old Testament quotes it shows Jesus as the promised Messiah. His feast day is Sept. 12.
