Saint Martin of Tours



Martin of Tours, Saint (c.316–397), bishop of Tours. Son of a pagan, he served in the Roman army but after a vision of Christ sought a religious life. Bishop of Tours from c.371, he encouraged monasticism and opposed execution of heretics.
